Spam Filtering (Filtering of Unsolicited Email)

MST.edu Domain Name Change Brings Better Spam Filtering and a Larger Email Account Quota

Missouri S&T IT is excited to offer improved email services as we transition to using MST.edu as our university’s email domain name.   Email accounts are being upgraded so you will also see a substantial increase in the size of your email account quota.  You should also see a reduction in the amount of spam you receive.

The new spam filter will be in place by the end of winter break.

Mailbox Management

In order to reduce the load and resource consumption, mailbox management, will be used for all accounts . Items in the Deleted Items folder older than 90 days and items in the Junk E-mail folder older than 30 days will be removed from the server.  You will have a 10-day period in which removed items can be recovered from the Exchange Dumpster.  Items can be recovered by using the "Recover Deleted Items" option in the Outlook tools menu.

Please note: Customers who have set up Outlook rules to filter spam email to a specified folder may need to make a slight change in the rule configuration.  If you need information about making the change, please contact the IT Help Desk at 573-341-HELP or submit an online Help Request at http://help.mst.edu.

What this means for you:

•         Your email account quota will be increased to 1 GB.

•         With improved spam filtering, you should receive less spam.

•         You will not be required to register for the improved spam filter.  We’ve got you covered!
