Missouri S&T set to expire all umr.edu email, web addresses on July 31

Important information you need to know about Missouri S&T email and departmental websites

Between now and July 31, the department of information technology at Missouri S&T will continue to update all IT services to the mst.edu domain.

On July 31, 2008, the umr.edu domain will be permanently decommissioned. 

For our customers, this means umr.edu web addresses, umr.edu email and saved bookmarks will cease to function and the university will use mst.edu only. Missouri S&T email and web services are currently accessible by using both the umr.edu and the mst.edu domains.

Timeline  Top

 June 5

  • Mass rename of printers to mst.edu domain
    For most customers there will not be a noticeable change.  Anyone who has trouble printing after June 5 should restart their printer before calling the IT Help Desk.  Customers who use non IT managed systems* may need to update their printer configuration.
  • Mass rename of non IT managed systems

Any machine or device registered as a ‘Desktop’ type registration in the  Network Maintenance Tool  still using the umr.edu naming convention will be renamed on this date.

Please note: All devices registered in the Network Maintenance Tool as a ‘desktop’ are not necessarily desktop machines.  Other devices may include, but are not limited to, cell phones with wifi, game consoles, laptops and some kinds of webcams.


            Example:r01joeminer.physics.umr.edu will become
            r01joeminer.device.mst.edu.

June 12

  • Web: Delay and redirect
    Customers who use a umr.edu web address will experience a delay before they are redirected to mst.edu.  During the delay, a friendly reminder will appear to let them know that umr.edu will no longer work after July 31.

July 31

  • Umr.edu web addresses will be expired
  • Umr.edu email addresses will be expired

July 31 – December 31

  • IT will continue to monitor the umr.edu domain to identify any remaining issues that need to be corrected.
